Only an hour away from Warsaw Lodz has suffered from both a brain drain to the capital and a large decline in the heavy industries that made up the mainstay of the local economy.

Lodz is not the first place that many Poles think of when choosing a place to live, yet almost 900,000 people live there. Jobs have started to be created in the last 2-3 years with companies such as Dell opening back office centres.

New road and rail links to Warsaw and likely to increase movement of people and trade between the two cities, though Lodz still has a long way to go before it completely transforms its economic and image of the city.

Similar to many cities in Poland property prices fell in 2008 and we see growth in 2009 being less than impressive. It is still slightly higher risk investment location that some of the more established/mature cities. So, unlike in previous years when there was potential for good growth, todays growth prospects do not compensate enough for the increased risk.
